Online MSc Bioinformatics: admissions requirements
To be eligible to apply for the Online MSc Bioinformatics, you will need to have obtained (or be predicted to obtain) at least an upper second-class degree or postgraduate diploma in life sciences, biomedical sciences, mathematics, computer science or another relevant quantitative subject from a UK university OR an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
If you are a UK student and do not meet the standard mathematics entry criteria for the programme, you will be asked to take a bootcamp course to demonstrate your skills.
Alternatively, you will need one of the following:
- 2.2 in those subjects plus 3–5 years of relevant work experience
- Third class degree plus 5–7 years of relevant work experience
- 8 years or more of relevant work experience and an A level in mathematics
Application checklist:
Certificate/transcripts | Bachelors Certificate or transcript (or equivalent): In order to assess your academic eligibility, you must upload a copy of your Bachelors or alternative qualification certificate or transcript stating the final overall grade of the qualification. |
Completed application | You first need to complete an application form online, adding your CV, statement of purpose and any other supporting documents. |
Curriculum vitae (CV) or résumé | Supply an up-to-date CV demonstrating your academic and work experience, plus any other skills that may support your application. This will help us to ensure you have the right experience for the programme. |
Reference | You can either include your referees details in your online application or you can send your reference as a letter or by email to your Student Recruitment Coordinator. It must be signed, on letterheaded paper, or supplied with your referee’s business card. |
Evidence of language (if applicable) | If English is not your first language, you will need to also supply an up-to-date English language certificate. We accept up-to-date Academic IELTS certificates with a score of 6.5, and no less than 6.0 in any of the elements. |
Statement of purpose (Optional) | This is your opportunity to draw attention to your skills, experience and goals, and to explain why you wish to apply for this programme. This may not be a mandatory step for your programme, so please consult your Student Recruitment Coordinator for more details. |
